Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series Act III – A decisive act

In the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, the winter regatta circuit launched in 2013, Act III is the point at which the standings begin to tighten. At this stage of the series, points are not chased, they are defended. Following two dominant performances by G-Spot from the Yacht Club de Monaco, the J/70 fleet returns to Monaco’s bay this weekend for the third act, which could significantly impact the season’s overall balance. The numbers favour the Monaco boat helmed by Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio. They have won two races, shown remarkable consistency, and have the ability to come through tricky races without sustaining damage. However, the standings tell a different story: a tightly contested fleet, well-established competitors, and a fragile margin at this stage of the season. This will be the final dress rehearsal before the season’s flagship event: the 42nd Primo Cup – UBS Trophy (5–8 March 2026). This regatta is regarded as one of the Mediterranean’s premier one-design events.

G-Spot is in front, but under pressure

G-Spot is in the lead, but not alone. Italy’s Alice and the Monaco teams Moonlight II, Fraser Yachts and Charisma V have all consistently demonstrated their ability to compete at the forefront. The difference has often come down to consistency. In Monaco in February, mistakes cost more than bold moves. And everyone knows that three days are enough to overturn a dynamic built patiently over months.

A deep, international fleet with no weak spots

This weekend, nearly forty teams representing seven nations will line up, including a strong Monaco contingent led by the J/70 Monaco Class Association. Familiar with the race area and its winter nuances, the local crews know that home advantage only counts if it is backed up by clean execution. Opposite them stands a foreign field that is now fully attuned to Monaco’s game. Crews from Switzerland, Italy, France, Sweden and Hungary have found their footing. Several have already delivered standout performances in individual races, but have not yet managed to perform consistently well over the course of an entire weekend. Act III could be the moment of their breakthrough.

Corinthian division: wide open

In the Corinthian category, no clear hierarchy has emerged. Tarte-3Nuits.com has a slight advantage, but Jerry, TinnJ70, Kaiser and Jacqueline are not far behind. Margins are slim and days are often unpredictable. At this level, one well-managed race can relaunch an entire campaign.

A turning point before the final push:

Act III will not decide everything, but it will reveal a lot, such as the leaders’ ability to withstand pressure and the challengers’ capacity to convert strong performances into results. It will also reveal the overall sharpness of a fleet edging closer to its main objective: the Primo Cup – UBS Trophy. The racing gets underway on Friday 13 February at 12:00.
