The Yacht Club de Monaco stands out on the international stage for its commitment to promoting excellence in yachting, blending tradition with innovation. These boats take part in prestigious competitions and international events, flying the Club’s colors on the world’s most renowned nautical stages.
Tuiga, a masterpiece by naval architect William Fife III, is a living symbol of elegance and maritime tradition. Built in 1909 at the request of the Duke of Medinacelli, Tuiga was designed based on the royal yacht Hispania, for King Alfonso XIII of Spain. Their striking resemblance and intense rivalries have marked the history of yachting, fueling rumors that Tuiga was intentionally slowed down to prevent it from surpassing the royal yacht.
Founded in 2016 by Pierre Casiraghi, Vice-President of the Yacht Club de Monaco, Team Malizia combines sporting performance, technological innovation and a commitment to sustainability, with the ambition of inspiring a new generation.
After numerous campaigns across the world’s oceans, Boris Herrmann, a member of the Y.C.M., launched his brand-new 60-foot yacht, Malizia 4, in July 2026. The boat is the result of a collaboration between Antoine Koch of the Finot-Conq design office and Gsea Design.
Following two years of development, this IMOCA was designed to meet the demands of the world’s most prestigious offshore races and aims to deliver strong performance across a wide range of sailing conditions. The narrower, flatter hull features significantly reduced rocker, a design choice intended to improve versatility and performance in varying conditions. The new foils were designed to retain their flying capabilities in stronger winds while improving the boat’s performance upwind and in lighter conditions. The mast is also 20 kilograms heavier than that of the previous IMOCA, bringing the total weight of the boom and rigging to 540 kg.
The cockpit has also been completely redesigned. Fully enclosed, it features large panoramic windows. One of the most visible changes is the use of steering wheels instead of a tiller. This strategic choice is intended to provide greater precision and efficiency when steering during long ocean passages.
The onboard electronics have also taken a major step forward. Sensors continuously monitor the boat’s main systems, while artificial intelligence technologies assist the skipper and crew in detecting floating obstacles. The hybrid-electric propulsion and energy system has also been optimised to reduce environmental impact while ensuring the autonomy required for offshore racing.
This latest-generation monohull is set to accompany the German skipper in the world’s leading offshore races, with the 2028 Vendée Globe firmly in his sights. More than 150 people contributed to the design and development of the project, representing almost 85,000 hours of work.
Named Malizia Explorer , this research vessel marks a significant step forward in our team’s ongoing efforts to collect data in remote and relevant ocean regions, advance scientific research and raise public awareness of the ocean’s crucial role in our climate system.
