Vladimir Prosikhin sails to victory
Yacht Club de Monaco member Vladimir Prosikhin and his crew on Nika emerged winners of the second regatta of the Melges 20 Miami Winter Series. Eight nail-biting races saw some outstanding sailing and canny tactical strategies before the verdict was announced. The fleet is back on the water 1-3 March for the third and last contest on this North American circuit.
Non-stop preparation
Monégasque Alexander Ehlen is in Fuerteventura, a mecca for kitesurfers, with all the top racers for a back-to-back coaching regatta. Exceptional conditions put a smile on the face of Yacht Club de Monaco’s kite boarder who finished 7th overall at this meeting. A great performance for this athlete as he continues to pull out all the stops to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
YCM crosses one million litres of water treated milestone
As part of its CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) policy, Yacht Club de Monaco has a number of initiatives underway such as recycling water from its swimming pool using innovative technology developed by FGWRS. Today a first milestone was reached as it passed the one million litres of water treated mark, equivalent to half an Olympic pool. It’s further proof of the success of its environmental policy that aims to get all those using the Club to think about the impact their choices have on the environment and take actions to reduce it. Every drop saved, recycled and conserved contributes to a future where this symbol of life remains abundant and accessible for future generations.
Objectives achieved
The 7th Marseille Coach Regatta has just concluded for the 150 young sailors in competition. Like the Monaco Optimist Academy the goal is to help young athletes progress with a quasi-training format that allows coaches to intervene during the racing. Divided into two groups according to their level, the Elite and Espoir fleets saw talented youngsters from all backgrounds giving it their all. The intense cold failed to dampen the Monegasques enthusiasm throughout the five races run in 6/12 knots.
2024 another anniversary year for Yacht Club de Monaco
After Yacht Club de Monaco’s 70th anniversary celebrations last year, festivities continue in 2024 with commemoration of 10 years in the new Clubhouse designed by Lord Foster. Once again the calendar lives up to the ambitions of the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach, initiated by YCM to position the Principality as a centre of excellence in this sector. High level sport, the environment, luxury yachting and maritime heritage are again in the spotlight throughout the year.
Light winds up pressure
It was a particularly nerve-wracking World Championship, reduced to three days of racing due to lack of wind at the start.
