The wind certainly blew hard at the 44Cup Marstrand. But if the previous day’s weather kept boats in the harbour, conditions were still blowy for the last three races with a rough sea typical of the Swedish archipelago. Unphased, Yacht Club de Monaco members held their own among the 12 in competition.
After a thrilling battle, Vladimir Proskihin at the helm of Team Nika won the day. Lying first before the final race, he saw his lead slip away against Aleph Racing, but then regained the upper hand in the final metres thanks to impeccable teamwork. A performance that confirms his domination this season after success in Porto Cervo in May.
In his wake, another YCM member Nico Poons and his crew on Team Charisma clinched 2nd as he continues to play a leading role on this circuit.
Torbjörn Törnqvist, also a YCM member, finished 8th on Artemis Racing, having been hampered by last minute changes to crew due to illness.
With three Monaco boats in the top 8, Yacht Club de Monaco maintains its prominent place on the RC44 international circuit. The next stage will be decisive as they head to Scheveningen in the Netherlands for the class’s World Championship where the battle for the title promises to be tight.
