Palma Bay once again lived up to its promise. For the 43rd Copa del Ray MAPFRE, which this year hosted the ORC European Championship, conditions were worthy of this major Mediterranean event. More than 130 teams from 24 countries competed in the typical thermal breezes of Mallorca, ensuring an intense week of racing.
Organised by the Real Club Náutico de Palma, it is much more than a regatta as it attracts the elite of international sailing, from seasoned champions to talented amateurs in a competitive setting.

High level and demanding

From the first day, a fickle wind shifting 180o meant only one race was completed. The following days alternated between technically demanding inshore races up to 57 nautical miles for the biggest boats and a succession of close contact races, up to three a day with a chance to discard the lowest score race after the sixth.

Vargen in the fray

Racing in ORC A, Bjorn Rosengren’s ClubSwan 43 Vargen from Yacht Club de Monaco had to contend with a particularly strong field. The crew showed impressive teamwork and commitment throughout the week to finish 21st in their category.
