The 47th Régates Royales de Cannes lived up to expectations with over 120 classic sailboats at the meeting. For a week, the bay of Cannes was blessed with light winds gusting over 20 knots to produce an exciting spectacle full of suspense.
Yacht Club de Monaco members secured several podium finishes with Carlo Falcone’s Mariella coming 2nd in the Big Boats category, while in the Classic Cruiser group, Argynne III kept up her momentum to clinch 2nd after winning the 17th Monaco Classic Week-La Belle Classe earlier in the month. Another consistent performance by the crew has established this boat as one of the season’s stand-outs.
In the Classic Racer category, Massimiliano Ferruzzi’s Il Moro di Venezia took 3rd while Kostia Belkin’s Viola in the Vintage Gaff came 5th out of 11 contestants in this group.
In the highly competitive 35-strong Dragon fleet, two Monaco teams were competing. Transbunker skippered by Andrea Zaoli came away in 7th while Chocolate with Edward Wright on board was 11th.
The results are a natural extension to Monaco Classic Week-La Belle Classe held a few days earlier in Port Hercule that remains one of the major international classic yacht events.
