From 4-12 October Corsica hosted the round island Tour de Corse à la Voile, one of the highlights of the Mediterranean season which this year was also the IRC European Championship. Organised by Yacht Club de Bonifacio, under the aegis of the French Sailing Federation and the Corsican Sailing League, this no-holds barred, non-stop, 250-nautical-mile race around the “Beautiful Isle” saw extended tactical tacks, calm zones and close-run passages along the Corsican coast.

Among contestants from all over Europe was Emmanuel Santelli, representing Yacht Club de Monaco on Magic Sea who secured a well-deserved 5th in the IRC 3 category and 4th in the Tour du Corse. A good result given the number of participants dominated by experienced crews from France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Since its launch, Tour de Corse à la Voile has attracted major names in offshore racing as well as passionate amateurs. Florence Arthaud, Franck Cammas, Catherine Chabaud, Kito de Pavant, Sébastien Josse and Lionel Péan, record holder 25 hours 57 minutes 5 seconds, have all left their mark on this demanding event that is part race, part offshore adventure.
