Trieste was again buzzing with activity as boats descended on the seaport for the annual Barcolana, the world’s largest regatta, which this year saw 1,294 entrants on the start line for the main event. For the 57th edition (1-12 October) the Melges 24 Foxydry flying the Yacht Club de Monaco flag came 313th overall and 34th in its category at the end of a race marked by light but constant conditions in the Gulf of Trieste.

Organised by Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, the annual Barcolana is a truly unique event on the international watersports calendar. It’s not just about performance but rather a celebration of a shared passion for the sea that brings amateurs and professionals together on the same start line.
The course was the same as the previous edition and followed a fixed-vertex quadrilateral in the Gulf of Trieste of 13 nautical miles. After the start given at 10.30am on a line between Barcola and Miramare, the crews headed out along the coast on a first tack of 4.3nm to the first mark before a series of tacks that took them back past the start to the finish line opposite Piazza Unità d’Italia.
