Three days and eight races going down to the wire made for an exciting regatta at this renowned Sardinian venue. In the end, Yacht Club de Monaco teams left Porto Cervo with some excellent results and podium finishes at the Invitational Smeralda 888.
In a compact fleet of ten boats, Marco Favale at the helm of Millenium Falcon won out in the final ranking. Behind them, the battle for the podium turned in favour of the other Monaco representatives. Guglielmo Lombardi Stronati on Stay Rude clinched 2nd, pipping to the post Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles and his crew on Vamos Mi Amor by one point to take 3rd.
Giovanni Lombardi Stronati (Django) and Vittorio Lombardi Stronati (Be Cool) completed the YCM results finishing 5th and 6th in a regatta where just four points separated 2nd and 6th place. Martin Nweeia (Paka A) came 10th.
Crews had to manage the oscillating medium-light winds throughout the event in the spirit of the Smeralda Class – socialising together ashore, battling it out at sea.
Next meeting: the Coppa Europa Smeralda 888, still in Porto Cervo, 4-6 July.
