This Friday 11 July at 11:00 the Royal Yacht Squadron cannons will signal the start of the Cowes Dinard St Malo Race, one of the oldest and most iconic races on the British sailing calendar. With 184 boats and 1,000 sailors representing 43 countries, the race has attracted an outstanding international fleet for the 151 nautical mile course from the Isle of Wight to the Britanny coast via Dinard.
Yacht Club de Monaco members will be out in force, particularly in the IRC Zero group where three boats are competing. Active YCM member Peter Harrison has entered his TP52 Jolt 3 and entrusted Matt Adams as skipper for this race, before he takes the helm himself next week for the Admiral’s Cup. Also on the start is Joost Schuijff on his Maxi Leopard 3, and Giovanni Lombardi Stronati on his Django WR51.
In IRC 1, the Carkeek 42 Jolt 6 is also flying the Monaco flag, helmed by Will Harris, co-skipper of Malizia-Seaexplorer. It is all part of the intensive preparations for the Admiral’s Cup when YCM Vice-President Pierre Casiraghi takes the helm. Finally, Giovanni Lombardi Stronati’s other boat, Django JPK will be on the start line, helmed for the occasion by Michele Ivaldi.
The 2025 edition is part of the centenary celebrations for RORC (the Royal Ocean Racing Club), as well as being the 13th stage of the RORC Season’s Points Championship; the fifth race in the Cowes Offshore Racing Series; and official launch of the European IRC Double Handed Championship, a new initiative to promote this format on the continent.
Organised in partnership with the UNCL, Yacht Club de Dinard, the Société Nautique de la Baie de Saint-Malo, the JOG and Royal Yacht Squadron, the Cowes Dinard St Malo Race dates back to 1906. Among its early patrons was Edward VII who presented the first cup.
For Jolt 3 and Jolt 6 it will be a quick turnaround as they return to the Solent for the Admiral’s Cup (17-31 July), another major international event. Peter Harrison will be back at the helm on Jolt 3, as will Pierre Casiraghi on Jolt 6 in their joint campaign representing the YCM.
