A New President for the Monegasque Chamber of Yachting

The Fédération des Entreprises Monégasques (FEDEM) has announced the appointment of Bernard d’Alessandri as President of the Chambre Monégasque du Yachting, the official body representing companies operating in the sector to the Monaco Government authorities. Established in 1945, FEDEM federates and represents all professional trade associations in Monaco. An interface between economic stakeholders and public authorities, it plays a key role in the promotion, development and competitiveness of the Principality’s business community.

Through its La Belle Classe Academy training centre and Sports Section, Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) has taken another step in its commitment to provide excellence in maritime education. It was at the annual Members Cocktail that YCM President, HSH Prince Albert II, announced the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) accreditation, a global reference in boating and water sports training, which positions its La Belle Classe Academy among institutions of excellence serving yachting and sailing professionals.

Once again a rich and varied programme awaited all generations as Yacht Club de Monaco joined forces with Monegasque nautical and environmental institutions to organise the annual Fête de la Mer on Saturday 21 June. Several hundred turned out for this fun festive day in the YCM Marina with families, sea enthusiasts and stakeholders making the most of the watersports and educational activities available to all.

Republican Guard calls into YCM

A backdrop worthy of the visit. On the sidelines of Monaco’s National Day on Tuesday 19th November, a detachment of 60 members of France’s Republican Guard, under the command of General Charles-Antoine Thomas and alongside Colonel Marie-Audrey Leheup, the first woman to head the Republican Guard’s cavalry regiment, called into Yacht Club de Monaco for the first time in its history.
The Supreme Commandant of Monaco’s Military Force, Colonel Tony Varo was present with ten representatives from the Prince of Monaco’s Palace Guards and the Fire Brigade. It was a highly symbolic meeting to forge a bridge between military traditions and the maritime spirit, in the presence of France’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Monaco, H.E. Mr Jean d’Haussonville.

Following the signing in 2008 of a reciprocity agreement between Yacht Club de Monaco, whose President is His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, and the Royal Selangor Yacht Club, under the Royal Patronage of His Royal Highness The Sultan of Selangor, the two Clubs wish to reinforce their bonds of friendship and collaboration by signing an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with a view to the Royal Selangor Yacht Club obtaining the ‘La Belle Classe Destinations by YCM’ certification.
