To encourage R&D and development of sustainable yachting

It was as part of Monaco Ocean Week that the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Yacht Club de Monaco officially announced a new prize for the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (https://energyboatchallenge.com/) that marks a new milestone in their partnership and was attended by Mike Horn and Bertrand Piccard, the event’s sponsor.
Under the aegis of the collective Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting approach and organised by YCM, this event brings maritime industry pioneers together with visionary engineers around a common goal: to promote alternative propulsion and sustainability in the yachting sector. On the programme, a unique convergence of boats already on or about to enter the market and innovative prototypes. “Every year, students surpass themselves. They are an amazing source of ideas. It is fascinating to see their potential and we are happy to put them in contact with industry players who are a great support for these young engineers,” says YCM General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri.

Yacht Club de Monaco and The Explorers Club celebrate the spirit of adventure
In a collaboration with The Explorers Club of New York, nearly 150 explorers made the trip for the first time to the Yacht Club de Monaco for its 13th Environmental Symposium entitled Day of Exploration, packed with talks and meetings that concluded with the 4th YCM Explorer Awards. Orchestrated by YCM, these meetings are key events during Monaco Ocean Week organised by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in partnership with the Monaco Government, the Monaco Oceanographic Institute and Monaco Scientific Centre. “We are keen to work together to promote research, innovation and education. This is the ambition of the ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach, initiated by the Yacht Club de Monaco which aims to encourage and develop sustainable, innovative yachting,” said HSH Prince Albert II.

3rd YCM Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts | Thursday 23rd March 2023
Thursday 23rd March 2023. Reflections on conserving and protecting the marine environment took centre stage during Monaco Ocean Week, organised on the initiative of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation alongside the Monaco Government, Monaco Oceanographic Institute and Monaco Scientific Centre. At this year’s event, Yacht Club de Monaco ran the debates again for the superyacht sector, on Thursday 23rd March, a highlight of which is the YCM Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts, held under the collective Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting brand.
This year, in paying tribute to a long tradition of exploration and innovation initiated by Prince Albert I and the strong links he had with music, the meeting opened with pianist Vincent Forestier and violinist Fabrizio Von Arx playing a 1720 Stradivarius, ‘The Angel’, an exceptional, rare instrument reflecting the unique-of-its-kind 3rd YCM Explorer Awards.
Time for the Environment

Initiated in 1974 by the United Nations, World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5th June. The aim is to highlight support for actions taken to protect and improve the environment, a priority to which the Yacht Club de Monaco contributes with various initiatives. Having designed its new Clubhouse in compliance with HQE (Haute Qualité Environnementale) green building standards, YCM has since achieved ISO 14001 and recently the Egeo certificate issued by electricity/gas company, SMEG, confirming that all electricity used in the Club is generated by renewable sources. This gives it access to the e+ label benefits, governed by a “positive energy” Charter that references efficiency contributions by the sun, wind and water. The measure is fully in line with targets set by the Principality’s Energy Climate Plan.
