The Principality of Monaco is all set to host the grand finale of the 2025 Smeralda 888 International Championship, now called Trophée Adalberto Miani as a tribute to this iconic member of the Yacht Club de Monaco who passed away in 2024. From 10 to 12 October, 14 teams will line up on the start, including eight flying the YCM flag, to end a season that has been fiercely competitive from start to finish.

Several contenders in the running for the title

The teams have been in action since February at prestigious venues, starting with Monaco where Germano Scarpa made his mark by winning the Primo Cup-Trophée UBS. YCM’s Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles then picked up the winning baton in Alassio at the Trofeo Luigi Carpaneda, followed in May by Luigi Guarnaccia on Capocaccia who triumphed at the Coupe de l’Hippocampe in Saint-Tropez. One month later, the Yacht Club de Monaco achieved a hat-trick with Marco Favale on Millenium Falcon in first. Finally in early July the Coppa Europa confirmed just how intense the contest on this circuit has been with victory going to Capocaccia and Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles clinching a superb 2nd in a strong Mistral. It all points to a thrilling finale ahead.

On track for a historic tenth title?

As current leader in the overall rankings, Smeralda 888 Class President, Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles (Vamos mi Amor), looks to be on course for a tenth victory, but it is so tight at the top that any one of four teams could snatch the crown. The Principality is therefore prepared for a thrilling finale in a class that combines elegance, rivalry and intense racing in the purist Smeralda 888 tradition.

Adalberto Miani tribute

An accomplished sportsman and passionate sailor, Adalberto Miani has left a lasting mark on the history of sailing and the Yacht Club de Monaco. Having distinguished himself on the international sabre fencing scene, he became a well-known highly respected sailor at the helm of his 12M IR Trivia and then his Smeralda 888 Botta Dritta. As YCM’s Sailing Officer he was one of the architects behind the Smeralda 888 fleet along with Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles, and contributed to the Club’s reputation through the launch and development of major events like the Palermo-Montecarlo. The decision to name the Smeralda 888 Championship finale after him is a fitting tribute to his legacy of sporting achievements, and as a man who will be remembered for his humanity and generosity.

A bespoke programme

For three days the fleet of gentlemen-racers will battle it out in Monaco’s bay. The crews will meet at the foot of the Rocher on Friday 10 October at 1.00pm for the start of the first race.
