Held for the second year running, the Swan Bonifacio Challenge is fast establishing itself as a major event in the ClubSwan calendar. The first regatta in the National League 2025, the event was a resounding success with 31 boats competing compared to 19 in 2024. Of note were the first participations of the ClubSwan 28 and ClubSwan 42, as this one design fleet continues to expand. In total, 27 nations battled it out in the ClubSwan 50, 42, 36 and 28 categories.

A feisty edition

After a warm-up day, teams got down to business on the Wednesday in breezy conditions. An 18-24 knot westerly blew from day one creating excellent sailing conditions. The Swan 36, 42 and 50 boats were the first to race while the Swan 28 group took full advantage of an extra day of preparation before they entered the fray on the Thursday. The excitement was palpable in the Swan 28 teams who put on a fine performance. The Finnish shipyard’s latest boat impressed and contributed to the spectacle on the water.

Close contest

Races concluded with the same intensity as at the start with Yacht Club de Monaco members in the different classes doing the Club proud. In ClubSwan 50, Leonardo Ferragamo at the helm of Cuordileone finished 4th while Graeme Peterson on Moonlight clinched 6th place. In ClubSwan 42, Nicolas Bouchet and Axelle Foucaud on Raving Swan finished 4th just outside the podium. In ClubSwan 36, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio aboard his  G-Spot came 3rd. And last but by no means least in the new ClubSwan 28, Lorenzo Bortolotti (Back Swan) came 5th.

Strong start to the season

As the first major event of the year, the ClubSwan season certainly got off to a flying start. Given the intense rivalry and quality in the fleets, the 2025 Swan Bonifacio Challenge confirmed the growing appeal of this class in the Mediterranean.
