Douarnenez Bay hosted the Yanmar Dragon Gold Cup, an iconic event in the Dragon class. For five days, the best international teams went head to head in unstable conditions swinging between tricky calm seas and strong winds. But despite postponements, six races were completed.
Among the 75 teams competing were two from Yacht Club de Monaco. Andrea Zaoli aboard Transbunker finished 44th after a week of mixed results (5, 14, 17, BFD, DNC, DNC), while Edward Wright (Chocolate) secured a solid 13th place (8, 68, 8, 8, 9, 27) in what was an extremely competitive fleet.
The Gold Cup remains a benchmark in modern classic yachts. Designed in the 1920s by Norwegian naval architect Johan Anker, the Dragon soon established itself as an elegant yet demanding racing yacht, and was an Olympic class from 1948 to 1972.
