Unpredictable weather, a strong line-up and fierce battles on the water, the 2025 Dragon World Championship held at Vilamoura lived up to expectations. For five days, the 50 teams in competition completed eight races in conditions that were as varied as racing on Dragons is technical. Light winds, rough seas and wind shifts kept the fleet on their toes to survive. Provezza Dragon led by British sailor Andy Beadsworth dominated the contest. With impressive consistency and total control of the conditions the trio (Beadsworth – Fry – Çaylak) had bagged the world title even before the final day. Untouchable! But behind them it went down to the wire with Saturn and GINKGO Racing engaged in a thrilling battle to complete the podium, the Swiss crew on GINGKO Racing clinging on to a slight advantage to come 2nd

Edward Wright on the pace

At this very high level contest, Edward Wright representing Yacht Club de Monaco pulled out all the stops aboard Chocolate, finishing 19th overall, a solid result against the world’s Dragon specialists. With strong starts and decisive tactical decisions, he kept up the pace on what was an often tricky race area. His consistency ensured he was in the top half of the ranking.
