Malizia-Seaexplorer, the IMOCA skippered by Boris Herrmann from Yacht Club de Monaco, has just finished Leg 4 of The Ocean Race Europe 2025 from Nice to Genoa in 6th place. After 2 days 22 hours 10 minutes 42 seconds at sea, the crew crossed the finish line in the bay of Genoa on Wednesday 3 September.

A tough Mediterranean leg

Starting at Nice, the fleet met a string of Mediterranean pitfalls with light airs at the start, sailing across Monaco bay in front of the Rocher, a decisive passage in the Strait of Bonifacio, and a succession of weather transitions along the Italian coast. A poorly rewarded trajectory very quickly relegated Malizia-Seaexplorer to the back of the lead group.
On the positive side for this leg, we kept our spirits up and really enjoyed the sailing,” said Boris Herrmann on arrival. “Even when it was clear we couldn’t catch the Canadians we pushed the boat to the maximum which showed great team spirit. We are a mix of nationalities and cultures. We fight to the end with total commitment. Whether we’re in front or behind, it’s a great pleasure to sail with this crew. Of course I hate losing, and sixth place was difficult to swallow. I am now fully focused on the next stage, more motivated than ever to get a good result”.

All eyes on a decisive Leg 5

On 7 September the Monegasque IMOCA sets sail again for Leg 5 of The Ocean Race Europe. The circa 1,000 nautical mile stage takes the fleet from Genoa to Boka Bay in Montenegro, via a strategic passage in the Adriatic. This is the penultimate stage before the final inshore race on 20 September where points equivalent to a complete leg are up for grabs.
There are 16 points left in the game. Anything is possible including a podium finish,” insists the German sailor, reiterating that his crew will pull out all the stops to the end. With the return of British co-skipper Will Harris, the crew intends to take full advantage of this final sprint to climb back up the ranking.
