IMOCA – Malizia-Seaexplorer – Vendée Globe
This morning Yacht Club de Monaco member Boris Herrmann, skipper on Malizia – Seaexplorer, is currently lying 9th facing difficult conditions. As he heads towards a massive weather front he expects a challenging day, with strong winds, rough seas and an area full of fishing boats.
A tough job at sea
Last night, Boris had to make a delicate adjustment to the foil trim system that he was forced to do manually because of a breakage that made the operation more complicated. But determination paid off: “It’s an adjustable chock at the rear of the foil box,” he explained. Having completed it, he said he was extremely relieved.
A formidable front and unexpected obstacles
As he approaches the front, Boris expects a long tracking upwind hoping to catch up again with Paul Meilhat (Biotherm) who’s just ahead of him. However, dangers other than bad weather lie ahead as they race up the Argentine coast crossing a large area full of fishing boats. These zones are well known to sailors: “It’s an incredible fishing area full of boats with Asian names. We saw the same thing during The Ocean Race. Hundreds of Chinese fishing boats grouped together in the same place!” says Boris.
