The Scandinavian venue lived up to expectations as a tough venue for the ILCA Senior European Championship Trophy. A week that saw 12 races completed in changeable conditions and an XXL field of 153 contestants. It was in this demanding context that Jérémy Moutout, representing Yacht Club de Monaco, held his own finishing 91st in the silver group having pocketed three solid races in the Top 20.

A championship of twists and turns

From the start, Marstrand proved hostile, with a two-metre swell and 10-12 knot breeze setting the tone. The Monaco sailor stayed in contention, managing the starts and first fleet battles with aplomb.
The second day was better with sunny skies and a steady breeze that Jérémy Moutout took advantage of to pull off some superb manoeuvres and a very encouraging race, demonstrating his ability to adapt to changing conditions.
The third day saw challengingly light airs of 6-8 knots, enough to complete the qualifier phase and for the Monegasque to clinch a place in the silver round, a key stage against such a competitive international field.
The fourth and fifth days of complete contrasts changed the game, with no wind-no races requiring patience and frustration on the fourth, while the fifth put everyone to the test with 14-20 knots and two-metre-high waves proving the toughest challenge yet.
The final stage ended on a high with blue skies, 15 knots and a moderate swell. Ideal conditions to finish on a positive note that confirmed the experience gained by competing against the best Europeans.

From Kiel to Marstrand: stronger by the day

A few weeks earlier at Kieler Woche (Germany), an institution in world Olympic sailing, the Monegasque had shown what he is capable of: 32nd in the gold group, with a 4th place in one race and 6th in another out of 148 contestants. In Marstrand, despite the more modest ranking, he confirmed that he knows how to manage a long demanding week and stay competitive in varied conditions.
