Sunday 18 May 2025. Eleven teams fought it out on the sparkling waters of the Costa Smeralda, but it was Yacht Club de Monaco members who dominated the leaderboard at this spectacular 44Cup Porto Cervo. It went down to the wire up to the last race for Vladimir Prosikhin (Team Nika) to clinch the win ahead of another YCM member, Torbjörn Törnqvist (Artemis Racing) in 2nd. Nico Poons (Team Charisma) finished with a flourish to secure 4th.

Team Nika masterstroke

Leading the regatta on the last day by one single point ahead of Artemis Racing, Vladimir Prosikhin held his nerve when it mattered. Forced into making an error at the start of the first race that saw them begin last, Team Nika regained ground with panache and won the first race. That set the tone. Nick Asher’s masterful tactics, the boat’s speed and meticulous execution of manoeuvres combined to deliver an outstanding performance and reclaim the lead of the 44Cup circuit. “To come from last behind the whole fleet to first is rare. Everything had to be perfect, the best manoeuvres, best speed, best trimming, etc. That’s what happened today,” said Vladimir Prosikhin afterwards.

Artemis Racing in control

In the wake of Team NikaArtemis Racing did not give up. Torbjörn Törnqvist and his crew put up a fight, especially given he was sailing against his son Markus whose young crew on GeMera caused a sensation by coming 3rd.

Strong finish for Charisma

After a slow start to the regatta, Nico Poons and his crew on Team Charisma turned it around on the last day. With the second-best performance on the water, they came back strongly to finish 4th.

Next stage: Marstrand

With this unprecedented father-son double on the podium and Team Nika so dominant, the 44Cup proved an exceptional stage at Porto Cervo. The fleet returns end of June in Marstrand (Sweden) for another stage with the provisional ranking for the season dominated by Monaco boats led by Team Nika ahead of Team Charisma followed by Artemis Racing.
