For her first time competing in the Corsica Classic, Lelantina (1937) skippered by Yacht Club de Monaco member Tigrane Djierdjian has won the prestigious Gaff class.
After leading from start to finish over the six legs between Ajaccio and Bonifacio, the 26m confirmed her status as a star of classic yachting in the Mediterranean. Faced with famous opponents including Puritan (1930), Lelantina set the pace throughout the 130 nautical miles covered, with impeccable starts, clear manoeuvres and impressive consistency throughout. The combination paid off on Corsican waters that are known for their contrasts.

High level competition

The 16th Corsica Classic attracted an exceptional international fleet with boats from Italy, Scandinavia, United States and Australia sailing alongside regulars representing France and Monaco. Centenarians like Wiki (1920) and Mad Cap (1874), the oldest in the fleet, were out with the modern Spirit of Tradition and IRC boats on this unique race round southern Corsica.

Focus now on Monaco Classic Week

The win comes just a week before Monaco Classic Week-La Belle Classe, organised 10-13 September by Yacht Club de Monaco. This showcase of classic yachting in all its forms will see sailing yachts, powerboats and historic motor-yachts gather for four days to celebrate the legacy of a certain Art de Vivre la Mer lifestyle which has its roots in the past.
