Three years after hosting the last Championnats de France Jeunes, the Étang de Berre welcomed the Championnat de France Espoirs fleets. For this one, 495 selected sailors descended on Martigues for a championship that saw a strong Mistral, hot sun and unpredictable thermals. For the first few days it was a reminder of why this venue is one of the most demanding, both for those racing and the organisers.

ILCA 7: Mathis Duplomb holds the line

In the ILCA 7 class of 28 contestants, Mathis Duplomb was consistently in the top third of the fleet (8, 9, 11, 5, 17, 8, 10, 9, 7, 16, 11 and 6) confirming yet again his ability to hold his own in the battle to be top of the ranking, finishing 8th overall.
His teammates Davide Marino and Gabriel Superina were more in the crowded middle of the fleet. Davide pulled out a string of respectable results between 13th and 22nd, while Gabriel clinched a strong 8th in one race, proof of his ability to seize opportunities. They left Martigues in 18th and 20th overall, respectively.

ILCA 6: Louise Debeaumont proves consistent

In the 27-strong ILCA 6 fleet, Louise Debeaumont was remarkably consistent, always in the Top 10 with results ranging between 6th and 10th place to remain comfortably in the leading group. She stayed strong and focused throughout the event to finish 8th in the championship.

ILCA 4: learning the ropes in a tight-packed fleet

With 64 contestants, the ILCA 4 class was without a doubt the toughest of the championship. Roman Lampert was in the thick of some very closely contested races and managed to clinch a very encouraging 13th place in one and mixed results in the others to finish 26th overall.
