He came to compete at the highest level and more than held his own. At a venue that will host the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, Jérémy Moutout, member of the Yacht Club de Monaco, finished 33rd out of 52 in a top-ranked fleet in ILCA 7, the men’s Olympic class.
A week of racing in changeable conditions with light thermals on the first day and strong winds on the others put participants to the test. Close starts on packed lines featuring famous names on the international circuit like Gautrey (NZL), Hanson (GBR), Beckett (GBR) and Kontides (CYP), heading for the Los Angeles Olympics, did not phase Jérémy Moutout.
Faced with a formidable fleet, he stayed focused, keeping contact, finding his bearings and reading the course, race after race, often in the centre of the fleet. His consistency meant he finished in the top half of a ranking where every mistake costs dearly.
For the Monegasque sailor, this Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta was a full immersion into the Olympic environment and direct confrontation with what the world’s top level demands.
