National Autumn Cup – Hyères
The ILCA competition team in the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section did very well at the National Autumn Cup in Hyères, a major meeting for young sailors. Six races were completed for the 128-strong ILCA 6 fleet by contestants from France, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, India, Guatemala, Ukraine and Monaco.
In at the deep end
Louise Debeaumont did extremely well to finish 11th in the under-18 women’s category, against fierce competition on the ILCA circuit including Olympic athletes. It was an ideal opportunity for these young Monegasques to get a taste of what it’s like racing at high level. Still in the ILCA 6, Gabriel Superina came in the top third in many races taking her to 96th in the overall ranking.
For 14-year-old Antoine Sauval it was his first outing at this level in ILCA 4, sailing with aplomb over the four days and six races run in this category.
Thrilling end to the season
And there’s more to come on the calendar for YCM sailors in the ILCA category. They head to Loano, Italy, for the 14-15 December final league regatta of the year. Jérémy Moutout (ILCA 7) and Louise Debeaumont (ILCA 6) will be going to Malta 19-20 December for a European Cup event, then enjoying a short break over Christmas before setting off to Croatia 28-31 December for a final European stage.
