Optimist – League Regatta – Bormes les Mimosas
Yacht Club de Monaco’s young Optimist sailors were out in force for the League Optimist Regatta in Bormes-les-Mimosas. With 14 young sailors, YCM again showed great team spirit and progress.
A productive training session ahead of the event
Saturday was an intensive training day organised with the Antibes and Cannes sailing clubs. The warm-up focused on setting courses, an ideal opportunity to fine-tune skills, manœuvres and strategy. On Sunday, conditions were more difficult with a fickle 0 to 5 knot breeze and light rain. Despite this, three races were held for the older Minimes and two for the younger Benjamins, with the Monegasques showing great motivation and commitment throughout the day.
Encouraging results
In the Minimes of 62 participants, Océane Schroeder came 23rd while Frederik Holst, Joséphine Dobbelaere and Facundo Rubinelli finished 35th, 45th and 60th respectively. In the Benjamins, out of 35 contestants the results were very promising with Louis Faivre and Jules Huon coming in a brilliant 2nd and 3rd place. Victor Marquet (13th) and Sacha Mousny (15th) also had a great regatta. Anastasia Verpeka came 16th and 2nd in the girls, while Mona Benchekroun, 17th and 3rd in the girls. Pietro Carlevaris impressed with a 2nd in one race to finish 22nd overall. Julian Lampert and Victor Holst completed the table in 26th and 29th.
The young sailors in YCM’s Sports Section are proving they have what it takes, these promising results proof of their commitment and steady progress.
