The 44Cup World Championship lived up to expectations off the coast of Scheveningen in the Netherlands. In a top-level fleet, Vladimir Proskihin (Team Nika) from Yacht Club de Monaco won his fifth world title confirming his supremacy in the RC44 class.
Yacht Club de Monaco was well represented with two other members competing in this demanding championship. Nico Poons at the helm of Charisma finished 8th after a week of changeable conditions in the North Sea. And the Swede Torbjörn Törnqvist (Artemis Racing) secured a well-deserved 5th in the overall ranking after a consistent set of results against the best teams on the circuit.
During the three days, sailors had to contend with strong winds and a big swell before the milder final day decided the ranking. Team Nika beat Team Ceeref Vaider and Aleph Racing in a tightly-fought battle right up to the last race.
The result confirms the momentum behind Yacht Club de Monaco racers on international circuits, who regularly excel against the world’s elite. Next event: the final stage of the 44Cup in November in the Canaries that closes the 2025 season.
