In the Optimist class at Cagnes-sur-Mer, the YCM team quickly found their rhythm during this Criterium event. The race format suited the young Monegasques who sailed and worked well together to clinch the Cup for second-placed club. At the YCM team spirit is fostered from a very early age.

Team spirit fostered from a very early age at the YCM

At Cagnes sur Mer, sailing alone was out of the question, as this regatta was all about team effort: positioning, communication, supporting each other… every detail mattered. The young sailors from Yacht Club de Monaco rose to the occasion, showing effective team cohesion at the right moments. After three races, out of 36 contestants Andrea Vallariello ranked 9th, Feline Kruijswijk finished in 10th place and Louis Milanesio was 16th.

Solid foundations for the future

What stood out from this performance was the way the group sailed together, reflecting on their actions and even correcting their mistakes as a team. It’s an approach that enables them to achieve this type of result. For Andrea and Louis it was a first outing. Although it was evident at times in certain phases of a race, that was also true of their keenness, commitment and resilience.

The Club’s young sailors are already laying solid foundations: understanding the sport, accepting their mistakes and progressing as a group. This kind of regatta isn’t just about the rankings, but developing reflexes and above all demonstrating how team spirit is built very early at different race venues.
