Viola wins the Monaco Challenge Cup in New York bay

As the first stage of the Tuiga and Viola American roadshow, the Monaco Challenge Cup marked the launch of a unique campaign that will take the two Yacht Club de Monaco ambassadors all the way to Newport. Organised by the Manhattan Yacht Club, this friendly regatta brought together several clubs from the United States East Coast, as well as a German crew, all there to celebrate in the yachting tradition before the festivities get underway for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence. The setting was truly unique. The yachts raced between the Statue of Liberty and the skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan, creating a striking image of the meeting between European maritime heritage and American nautical culture.

An early success before the 4th July celebrations

At the helm of his gaff cutter, Kostia Belkin steered the Monegasque crew to victory. Viola won the Monaco Challenge Cup following a regatta where sportsmanship and camaraderie were at the heart of the event, without detracting from the intensity of the competition on the water.

This victory marks the first major highlight of the Yacht Club de Monaco’s American roadshow. In the next few day, Viola and YCM’s flagship Tuiga will take part in the Sail4th 250 celebrations, the centrepiece of festivities in New York marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. The two YCM ambassadors will be taking part in the prestigious International Parade of Sail alongside the world’s largest sailing ships and a fleet of naval vessels, as they continue their mission as ambassadors of Monaco’s maritime heritage on the United States East Coast.
