The Yacht Club de Monaco was on the podium at the Vela & Golf in Porto Cervo. Led by Roberto Tamburelli, the Monegasque team secured 2nd place at this 20th edition organised by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, at the end of a weekend of golf and races on J/70s in a competitive but friendly spirit.

Yacht Club de Monaco on the podium at the Vela & Golf

Since 2005, the Vela & Golf has occupied a very special place on Yacht Club Costa Smeralda’s calendar. The event combines two demanding disciplines, sailing and golf, both counting towards the same overall ranking. This anniversary edition gathered eight teams representing several major European clubs, including the Yacht Club Italiano, Norddeutscher Regatta Verein, Yacht Club Adriatico and Yacht Club Punta Ala. As the defending title holders in 2025, Yacht Club de Monaco arrived in Porto Cervo with the ambition to play leading roles in both disciplines.

Day One competing on the Pevero greens

The competition kicked off on the Pevero Golf Club course, one of the most famous sites in Sardinia. In ideal conditions, teams played an 18-hole tournament before the sailing contest the next day. Yacht Club Italiano took the lead after the first day, ahead of the Pevero Golf Club and Yacht Club de Monaco, already well placed in the combined ranking.

Races launched in a Sardinian Mistral

On Sunday, the teams set out on YCCS J/70s for three races off Porto Cervo. The Mistral very quickly filled in to complicate matters, with winds oscillating between 16 and 20 knots in some areas of the race venue while the pressure dropped considerably near Cala Granu. In these unstable conditions, gaps between teams remained tight between the favourites.

Second place based on consistency

In the final overall ranking, golf and sailing results combined, Yacht Club Italiano, led by the 470 champion Alessandra Dubbini, won, this being the first time they’d participated in the event. Skippered by Roberto Tamburelli, Yacht Club de Monaco was on the podium having finished in a solid 2nd place thanks to their consistency in the two disciplines.  Yacht Club Costa Smeralda completed the podium of this 20th edition.

A unique event on the Mediterranean calendar

The Vela & Golf maintains the spirit that has set this event apart for the last 20 years, which is the balance between high level competition and a relaxed ambiance ashore.  In Porto Cervo, teams move from golf to a regatta in an atmosphere that remains unique on the Mediterranean circuit.
