A strong performance from the YCM in ILCA 7 thanks to Jérémy Moutout who made his mark at the 8th Portugal Grand Prix – Round 1 in Vilamoura. The Monegasque sailor pulled off a solid performance against a particularly high-level international fleet that comprised many of the world’s best sailors in this class. In variable conditions with winds ranging from 5 through to 25 knots he maintained remarkable consistency throughout the eight races completed.

Competing against 80 athletes representing 29 nations in ILCA 7, Jérémy Moutout came 44th, a result that says much about the size of the fleet and progress he has made these last few months. He broached a significant technical milestone when in the first race he won the first race by a minute, only to be disqualified for a contact made before the start. On the next race, he was between 2nd and 5th place until the final 50m before being given a yellow card.

Despite these rare incidents, his overall performance was very positive. Out of eight races, he finished in the top 10 three times, 4th, 6th, 9th, his ability to consistently compete at the front confirming his progress in one of the most demanding classes in dinghy sailing.

With 248 sailors on the water, the Portugal Grand Prix is recognised as a major event on the international calendar.

Momentum confirms the YCM Sports Section’s approach

Jérémy’s results at this event is all part of the work carried out by Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section which is committed year-round to a programme structured to prepare and support young athletes. YCM’s sports performance in ILCA 7 at Vilamoura further reinforces the Club’s presence at the highest level and the investment made by these athletes in top-tier international competitions.
