Organised by the Club Nautique de Brest, the International Summer Cup (CIE) is much more than a regatta. It’s a flagship event on the Optimist calendar which brings together hundreds of young sailors from all walks of life to share their passion, see how they’re progressing, and enjoy all the thrills and intensity of fleet races

Optimist Minimes: consistent to the end

Among the 165 entrants in the older Minimes category Océane Schroeder made it into the coveted gold category with a solid performance that placed her 42nd in the overall ranking in the lead group. Joséphine Dobbeleare finished in the silver group, 125thplace, a good result as it was a very competitive fleet.

Optimist Benjamins: aiming for the gold

In the younger Benjamins, of the 104 contestants, Louis Faivre came 32nd in the gold group, with Jules Huon not far behind in 42nd , both proving they have mastered the format and can hold their nerve against tough competition. In the silver, Mona Benchekroun, Louis Pompée and Sacha Mounsy finished 76th, 93rd and 102nd respectively and gained valuable experience under race conditions.

Critérium: focus on learning

In the Critérium (87 entrants), Benjamin Verburg, Loïs Bernaz and Pierre Kruijswijk lined up on the starts of their first major competition. They finished 53rd, 54th and 71st respectively in this format which is all about initiating kids into racing and finding their bearings in the fleet. These encouraging results mark an important step in their journey.
What is important is the role played by big meetings, like this one, in training the youngest generation of sailors.
