Monaco Optimist & Laser Academy – 19-21 November 2021
Friday 19th November 2021. Striving always to pursue its sports policy and maintain its position as a winter training base, Yacht Club de Monaco is all set for the 3rd Monaco Optimist & Laser Academy.
Nearly 120 Optimist sailors will be rigging up in the Principality for this unique event which allows coaches to approach their charges during races. The goal is to help young sailors perfect skills and knowledge both from a tactical and technical point of view, by giving them on-the-spot tips to success.
This year some 40 ILCA 4 and 6 (Laser 4.7 and Radial) will also be out on the water.
Young international generation
Attracted by this original format some teams have come a long way to take part, like the five young racers from the Odessa Black Sea Yacht Club and all the Swiss contestants. In total, 27 clubs and five nations (Monaco, France, Switzerland, Italy and Ukraine) will be represented.
Note that this is also a qualifying regatta for the international Monaco Optimist Team Race (MOTR) organised by the YCM 12-16 January 2022, restricted to the 16 best clubs and nations in this class, totalling 64 sailors.
Packed programme
It all starts from 2.00pm on Friday with a training race, a warm up that will undoubtedly set the tone for the weekend and provide hints as to who is going to come out on top.
