Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup – Porto Cervo – 4-10 September
Saturday 10th September 2022. Yet again the Maxi Highland Fling XI of Irvine Laidlaw from Yacht Club de Monaco lived up to its reputation, taking 1st place in the Maxis. It’s the fifth victory at this meeting. “The boat is 13 years old this year and we are delighted to still be competing and sailing well against all these other much younger boats,” said a delighted Irvine Laidlaw. Looking ahead, he has already announced his participation for the 2023 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup: “We’ll be back next year with a new 80-foot catamaran and can’t wait. There will be a multihull class and we’ll be on the water to win it”.
Organised by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in partnership with IMA (International Maxi Association), the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup once again attracted a huge turnout of teams including Claus Peter Offen’s Y3K from YCM racing in the Maxi category which came 6th ahead of Leopard 3 in 9th. Of the six categories, those in the Mini Maxi group were competing against IMA President Benoît de Froidmont (Wallyno), who finished 6th and Valter Pizzoli (Les Amis), 9th.
