Finale of Smeralda 888 International Championship – Monaco | 28-30 October 2022
Sunday 30th October 2022. It was a recipe for a successful season for the Smeralda 888 class that ended on Monaco turf – 17 teams, eight nations and seven events including a Gold Cup. An unprecedented finale in terms of participation with the all-ladies Pink Wave crew competing for the first time.
After three races in a light 5-10 knot breeze, Class President Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles on his Vamos mi Amor claimed another victory, closely followed by Beda led by Timofey Sukhotin and Botta Dritta with Francesco Vauban and Guido Miani on board. Results reflected in the ranking for the 2022 Championship. Paolo Rotelli (Black Star) completed the forecasts of this final regatta, finishing 4th ahead of Loïc Pompée (Kazimodo) in 7th, Roland Trim (Trim) 8th and Kathrin Hoyos (Pink Wave) 9th.
Note, too, the Swiss delegation and a J/70 crew from Société Nautique de Genève who took the start of this regatta as it required the presence of two classes to fulfil criteria allowing the Challenger Alinghi to compete in the America’s Cup under the SNG flag.
