French Olympic Week | 22-29 April 2023
Saturday 29th April 2023. A highly promising young kiteboarder, Monegasque Alexander Ehlen from Yacht Club de Monaco has just achieved a major sporting exploit in his bid to qualify for the Paris Olympics in 2024, by finishing 6th in the French Olympic Week. Considered the 2nd World Cup of the season, the event gathered the cream of the crop in Olympic sailing, including kiteboarding which is making its debut at the next Olympics.
Consistency pays off
Having got off on the wrong foot with a U Flag Disqualification for jumping the gun in the first race, Alexander got into his stride with consistently good results for the next 16 races. Two days of a Mistral blowing followed by four days of light winds allowed him to showcase his potential at a high level and compete in the medal race for the top ten in the overall ranking.
More to come
After his 11th place in Palma at the first World Cup of the season, Alexander Ehlen, a Monaco Sport Academy member, finished 6th and is set to up his game to qualify for the Olympics at the next meeting on the Olympic Games race area in Marseille 9-16 July 2023.
