XIII Trofeo Euromarina Optimist – Torrevieja – Spain – 23-26 January 2020
Sunday 26th January 2020. The meeting was shaping up to be top-level before the start as 400 contestants from 26 nations descended on Torrevieja for the 13th Trofeo Euromarina, including the 2018 and 2019 European Champions and the world’s top ten. Once again competitors from the Yacht Club de Monaco were in the thick of it trying to thwart the tactical challenges of an unpredictable race area, complicated by a swell, light winds and strong current.
Monaco team leader and member of the Monaco Sport Academy, Leonardo Bonelli could only manage 34th despite an excellent start including an 8th and four 4th places. Penalised by a BFD disqualification and a 65th, Noah Garcia ended 52nd in the final ranking, with Matteo Asscher 221st and the very young Namu van der Linden 336th.
