YCM’s young sailors shone at the ILCA semi-national event in Saint-Raphaël. During a challenging weekend, the Monegasque sailors pulled off several podium finishes and a string of good results. As the group builds on their strengths and progress, they continue to move forward.

YCM juniors shine in the ILCA 4 semi-national

In ILCA 4, the group established themselves as one of the strongest of the weekend. Mark Slotboom clinched the win, followed by Giorgos Papavasileiou in 2nd place. Having two on the podium reflects the current momentum behind this talented group.Behind them, Océane Schroeder grabbed a creditable 5th place in the overall ranking and was 2nd in the girls. This consistent performance follows on from her recent successful move to this class. Gabriel Gaglio Lanteri completes this group with a 10th place, having remained in contention in a close-packed fleet. Further back in the rankings, Antoine Sauval and Ennio Rostagni were penalised by the black flag for being over the line on the start, which had an impact on their final rankings, 32nd and 39th respectively..

A podium finish in ILCA 7

In ILCA 7, Mathis Duplomb put in a solid performance to clinch 3rd place. In this demanding ILCA category, he managed to stay in contact with the leaders and capitalise on his performance throughout the weekend. In ILCA 6, Roman Lampert finished 26th in a very strong fleet.

A group on the up

These young sailors shone at this semi-national event but, beyond the results, what stands out is the momentum behind them. The group is showing consistency, commitment and real ability to perform well under different conditions. Mistakes like the black flag penalties on the start are all part of the process as they adjust, understand and progress together under race conditions.

Focus now on upcoming challenges

They are already preparing for the next event, the League Cup final 6-7 June at Lake Serre-Ponçon. Meanwhile, upcoming training camps will give them an opportunity to reinforce techniques and physical strength, a logical follow up for a group which is improving regatta after regatta.
