Optimist – World Championship-Riva del Garda 30 June-10 July 20210
Saturday 10th July 2021. They had prepared for weeks and gave their all from start to finish of the ten races in a World Championship that numbered 60 nations. Fresh 10-17 knot breezes and a light chop were enough to bring out all the potential of the young racers. Four sailors from the Yacht Club de Monaco’s Sports Section were among the 260 registered.
It’s only a goodbye
For his last regatta in the Optimist class, Noah Garcia redoubled his efforts to finish on a high. After missing out at the last minute in the qualifying phases to be in the gold group, he made up for it in the silver category by coming 2nd. A great result ending with a superb win of one race when he was 150m ahead of the fleet. Matteo Asscher was also in silver and finished 107th. The only girl in the YCM team, Namu van Der Linden competing in her last Optimist regatta, finished 186th while Alexandre Pompée, one of the youngest at this Worlds, was 252nd.
