Django finished 2nd in the Cape 31 Gold Cup in Saint-Tropez. Lying in 4th place before the final two races, Vittorio Lombardi Stronati and his crew fought their way onto the podium in the last race. Adrien Follin (Give Me Five), Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio (G-Spot) and Loïc Pompée (Terrible Joy) were also among the 28 competitors in this year’s edition.

The definitive podium was not decided until the tenth and final race, and Django had already had a full week heading into that last race. Lying in 4th place after four races, Vittorio Lombardi Stronati’s boat moved up the next day with a 2nd place before going on to win the seventh race ahead of Gecko d’Or and La Pericolosa.

By Saturday morning, only four points separated Khumbu, Hatari and Django in the battle for the final two spots on the podium.

The first of the day’s two races did not go Django’s way who finished 13th. But it was all change in the last race when by finishing 2nd behind Chisum, Vittorio Lombardi Stronati jumped from 4th to 2nd in the overall ranking with 58 points.

Ten races ten different winners

This inaugural Cape 31 Gold Cup left little room for calculations. Ten races were contested, each won by a different boat, a statistic that speaks volumes for the fleet’s calibre. Django was among them, as was Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio’s G-Spot, which won the third race and ultimately finished 16th in the overall ranking.

Another YCM member on the start was Adrien Follin who finished 13th on Give Me Five, including a 6th place in the third race. Loïc Pompée (Terrible Joy) secured 23rd place.

It was a particularly intense week for a record 28 strong fleet of Cape 31s, with conditions changing every day. Django finished 2nd in the Cape 31 Gold Cup, following a race win and a final race performance that secured them a spot on the podium and moved them up two places in the overall ranking.
