Esteban Garcia was competing in the TF35 Versoix Grand Prix where he came 5th on Realteam Spirit. Nine races were completed over three days of racing on Lake Geneva at this penultimate event of the season, where occasionally light winds tested the patience of the eight teams in competition.
The first day got off to a promising start. Under blue skies, a 7 to 10 knot breeze allowed the fleet to complete four races during the afternoon. Realteam Spirit quickly made its mark, coming 3rd early on in the regatta and 1st in the second race, which boosted the crew’s confidence having won the previous event.
What followed was less straightforward resulting in a results series of 3rd, 1st, 8th, 4th, 6th, 7th, 3rd, 4th and 4th as Esteban Garcia and his crew alternated between front runner positions and more difficult races to finish 5th overall in the Grand Prix.
As the wind eased over the course of the weekend, with speeds dropping as low as six knots at times, the fleet had to contend with Lake Geneva’s tricky reputation plus light, unstable conditions.
Esteban Garcia was competing at the TF35 Versoix Grand Prix in the fifth event of the season. The finale of this championship is in three weeks from 2-4 October at the Geneva TF35 Grand Prix, organised by the Société Nautique de Genève, a club twinned with Yacht Club de Monaco.
