There was no respite this weekend for the seven competing at the Mies Grand Prix. From the start conditions were particularly difficult to anticipate with very little wind at the beginning forcing crews to be patient.
The next day, the landscape changed dramatically with storm cells developing over the Jura Mountains, whipping up the Joran, a north-westerly capable of transforming a race area in minutes.
aturday, the teams had a long wait before conditions were right to launch a race. The wind picked up with gusts over 20 knots during squalls, requiring teams to adapt their set-ups before the intensity suddenly dropped below 10 knots.
In the end only one race could be validated in such changeable conditions. On boats capable of impressive speed, the problem was not going fast but managing to stay in the right wind corridor.
The TF35 circuit continues to witness extremely tight gaps between teams. At this event, Realteam Spirit tackled a fickle Lake Geneva head on and stayed in contact with this fiercely competitive fleet to finish in 5th place overall.
The Championship is now entering a crucial phase with a succession of regattas on Lake Geneva. For Esteban Garcia and Realteam Spirit, this Mies Grand Prix was an eye-opener in extremely varied conditions.
The circuit resumes on 6 June with another equally intense follow-up at the Bol d’Or on Lake Geneva.
