G-Spot was discovering the Cape 31 circuit at the third stage of the Mediterranean Championship held in Bonifacio. For his first appearance in this fast-expanding class, Yacht Club de Monaco member Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio and his crew finished 10th in a fleet of 15 boats, after nine races in sometimes challenging conditions off the Corsican cliffs.

G-Spot discovers Cape 31 circuit in an unforgiving fleet

This Bonifacio stage saw the largest gathering of the 2026 season of the Cape 31 Mediterranean Circuit. Fifteen teams representing several European nations descended on Bonifacio to compete in one of the most renowned race venues in the Mediterranean. The event saw the arrival of new projects to the class, including G-Spot. Already well-known on the J/70 and ClubSwan 36 Mediterranean circuits, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio’s crew made their debut aboard their new Cape 31 against competitors already well-established in this championship.

Bonifacio lives up to its reputation

As always, the backdrop did not disappoint. Between limestone cliffs, the spectacular harbour entrance and dramatic topography, which are such a feature of the Strait of Bonifacio, crews had to stay focused. The week started with a strong Mistral that forced organisers to cancel the training day planned before racing got underway. Conditions then improved to allow nine hard-fought races to be completed.

A class that continues grow

The Cape 31 class continues to expand in the Mediterranean. The presence of new teams combined with an increasingly international fleet is proof of the boat’s appeal in attracting both one design boat owners and seasoned regulars on the major IRC and ORC circuits. In Bonifacio, gaps between contesting boats remained tight throughout the weekend, showing how evenly matched the fleet has become. G-Spot was discovering the Cape 31 circuit and gaining valuable experience against already established crews.

Scarlino the next stop for the season

After Bonifacio, the circuit continues its route in Italy with the fourth stage set for 10-12 July in Scarlino. For G-Spot, this first regatta was an opportunity to get their bearings in a class that is thriving and accumulate time on the water against one of the most competitive classes in the Mediterranean.
