Joost Schuijff from YCM overall winner
RORC Caribbean 600 – Antigua
19-21 February 2024
Thursday 22nd February 2024. Having crossed the finish line in 2 days 1 hour 23 minutes 18 seconds to take Monohull Line Honours, Leopard 3 led by Yacht Club de Monaco’s Joost Schuijff also won the event in corrected time in IRC. Leopard 3 was one of the pioneers of this 600 nautical mile event, setting the course’s first record in 2009 and winning Monohull Line Honours again in 2013.
However, in the previous eight editions the Farr 30 competed, this is the first time it has won the race overall under IRC. Leopard 3 is faster than ever after a major overhaul which included shedding ten tonnes of weight while also increasing the sail area and replacing the mast.
“When I woke this morning and heard that Leopard 3 was overall winner, it was incredible, I am very proud of the team and the boat,” said a delighted Joost Schuijff. “It’s a wonderful experience and very special feeling. When I look at the trophy, I see so many famous names on it. I am thrilled for the team that the name Leopard 3 is now also engraved on it. The team is super important; without the right people you can’t achieve the best results”. The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta (29 February-3 March) is the next big meeting on the calendar for this Yacht Club de Monaco member.
