Six régatiers monégasques décrochent leur place parmi l’élite nationale

Mission accomplished for the young sailors from Yacht Club de Monaco who are now setting their sights on the ILCA French Championship. Having successfully navigated the qualifying stage, the contestants are reaping the rewards of a season defined by hard work and consistency. The Southern League of the French Sailing Federation has officially confirmed the selections for the upcoming national events. The six athletes from Yacht Club de Monaco will represent the Principality in the three ILCA classes confirming the quality of the Monegasque training programme and steady progress of its young sailors.

Heading to the French ILCA Championship

Yacht Club de Monaco will be represented across all ILCA classes (formerly Laser). In ILCA 4, Mark Slotboom, Giorgos Papavasileiou, Gabriel Lanteri Gaglio and Antoine Sauval qualified following a season of high-level regional and national competition. Roman Lampert will also compete in the French Championship in ILCA 6, while Gabriel Superina flies the Monegasque flag in ILCA 7.

These six selections reflect the standard achieved by the Club’s young sailors and rewards their commitment throughout the season. They also highlight the quality of the day-to-day work undertaken by Yacht Club de Monaco’s coaching staff, and the support provided by the Monegasque Sailing Federation.

Another milestone in their progress

Before tackling one of the highlights of their season, the athletes will enjoy a brief well-earned break with their families, when school breaks up for the summer holidays, after months of competition.

Training resumes on 6 July with a camp in Maubuisson (southwest France), the first stage of the summer programme. The goal is to arrive at the French Championship in peak condition having maintained the highly promising momentum propelling Monaco’s new generation onwards and upwards.

With six sailors qualified across all three ILCA classes, the YCM squad has its sights set on the French ILCA Championship in Martigues, 18-22 August, the ambition being to stand out.
