The SEA Index® and EDEIS Launch the First Environmental Incentive Scheme for Eco-Friendly Mooring in Pampelonne

The SEA Index®, environmental rating tools for yachts developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco, and EDEIS, operator of the Pampelonne Mooring and Light Equipment Zone (ZMEL), are pleased to announce the launch of the first operational environmental initiative for mooring buoys.
Implemented within the Pampelonne Mooring and Light Equipment Zone (ZMEL), this pioneering initiative is based on a system of “eco-priority mooring buoys” designed to give preferential access to SEA Index®-certified yachts committed to reducing their environmental footprint. Located in the Gulf of Pampelonne, near Saint-Tropez, whose port was among the first partners of the SEA Index®, the EDEIS-operated ZMEL is now the first environmentally responsible mooring area to join the SEA Index® network. EDEIS, a leading operator and engineering specialist in tourism and transport infrastructure, is pleased to announce the reopening of the Petit Train de La Mure on 4 April 2026. Following a year dedicated to major enhancement works in 2025, the new season heralds the return of a fully operational attraction, ready to welcome visitors in the best possible conditions.

A Practical Environmental Incentive for Mooring Buoys Supported by the SEA Index®

Selected mooring buoys will now be given priority to SEA Index®-certified yachts based on their environmental performance rating. Without imposing any additional regulatory constraints, this mechanism turns environmental performance into a recognized and rewarding criterion for access to mooring facilities This partnership represents a new milestone in the rollout of the SEA Index®, transforming its environmental assessment methodology into tangible operational benefits that yacht owners and captains can directly experience when selecting a destination or mooring location. The initiative aims to encourage the presence of yachts with a lower environmental footprint, while enhancing the protection of the marine ecosystem and supporting the site’s long-term sustainability and appeal. “At Pampelonne, the SEA Index® demonstrates that environmental measurement can become a practical driver for action. A yacht’s environmental performance now translates into a tangible operational advantage, helping to protect marine ecosystems.” Bernard d’Alessandri, President, SEA Index®, Secretary General, Yacht Club de Monaco

Pampelonne: Leading the Way in Sustainable Mooring

Commissioned in 2025 and operated by EDEIS, the Pampelonne Mooring and Light Equipment Zone (ZMEL) comprises 150 mooring berths designed to accommodate yachts up to 80 metres in length. The site incorporates an innovative eco-mooring system designed to minimise seabed impact and protect Posidonia seagrass meadows, vital natural carbon sinks and essential habitats that support Mediterranean marine biodiversity. With Pampelonne, the initiative led by EDEIS and the SEA Index® reaches a new milestone by directly embedding environmental incentives into the operation of an environmentally responsible mooring area. « This partnership with the SEA Index® represents a significant step forward in our ambition to position Pampelonne as a leading reference for sustainable mooring in the Mediterranean. By bringing together the SEA Index®’s environmental expertise and EDEIS’ operational excellence, we are demonstrating that maritime appeal, environmental stewardship and innovation in coastal management can be successfully aligned. With the introduction of ‘eco-priority mooring buoys’, environmental performance becomes, for the first time, a practical lever for organising access to mooring facilities. » Martin Meyrier, President of EDEIS Concessions, operator of Pampelonne Mooring The Pampelonne ZMEL has become a demonstrator of the SEA Index® toolkit, with the ambition of replicating this approach in other mooring areas across the Mediterranean and beyond.
