A fleet of 100 crews representing 26 nationalities lined up for the J/70 World Championship held this year in Cascais. With two Monaco crews competing, the Yacht Club de Monaco was represented by Stefano Roberti (G-Spot) and Louis Samuel Poons (Charisma V H992 Sailing Team), both seasoned competitors on European and global circuits. Ten races were completed on this Portuguese race area to determine the rankings of a particularly competitive fleet, as evidenced by the narrow gaps between top contenders throughout the week.
The J/70 World Championship is the most anticipated event on the calendar for this class. Every year, the regatta brings together the best crews from around the world. The finale promised to be electrifying, as only four points separated the top three boats heading into the last day.
In the final analysis, the Brazilians on Oceanpact-Viking delivered a near-perfect performance to clinch victory ahead of the Spanish on Marnatura. Two Monaco crews were representing YCM at the event. Stefano Roberti (G-Spot) remained in the heart of the fleet throughout the week, even pulling out a well-earned 2nd place in one race towards the end of the Championship. He finished 44th overall, ahead of Louis Samuel Poons (Charisma V H992 Sailing Team), 65th.
With 15 teams signed up, the J/70 Monaco Class Association is one of the largest fleets in the Mediterranean. The class will soon be back out on the water when the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series kicks off (Act 1: 5-8 November 2026), a winter regatta circuit launched in 2013.
Every year, hundreds of sailors gather in the bay of Monaco to take advantage of optimal conditions in winter to prepare for the upcoming season at regular regattas that culminate in the Primo Cup-UBS Trophy (March 11–14, 2027).
