However fierce the competition, J/70 Monegasque teams are competing high up the ranking. Eighty-two boats representing 24 nations lined up for one of the most competitive and high-level editions in J/70 European Championship history. Matteo Marenghi Vaselli (G-Spot) secured an impressive 10th place overall and 8th place in the Open category. Pierrik Devic (Fraser Yachts), Stefano Roberti (Piccinina) and Matteo Scandolera (Irruenza – Liguriahomes Casamare), all Yacht Club de Monaco members, also delivered strong performances throughout the event.

J/70 Monegasque teams competing high up the ranking alongside top European teams

Eighty-two teams turned out for the event, all intent on achieving their ambitions. In the overall rankings, Matteo Marenghi Vaselli (G-Spot) secured an impressive 10th place, after finishing two races in 3rd place; and also came 8th in the Open class. Pierrik Devic (Fraser Yachts), another J/70 international circuit regular, finished 33rd overall and 19th in the Open class.

Of note is the performance of Stefano Roberti (Piccinina). While he finished 45th overall, he clinched a well-deserved 8th place in the One Pro class. Meanwhile, Matteo Scandolera (Irruenza – Liguriahomes Casamare) was in contact with the best throughout the week, finishing 58th overall and 17th in the Corinthian category.

The results confirm the standing of the Yacht Club de Monaco teams on the circuit and demonstrate again how J/70 Monegasque teams are competing high up the ranking.

The J/70 Monaco Class Association represents one of the largest fleets in the Mediterranean, with around 15 teams sailing year-round under the Club’s flag.

A race venue worthy of a championship

The Barcelona venue served up varied conditions throughout the week. It kicked off with a 6 to 11 knot southeasterly thermal breeze before crews faced a more settled easterly wind ranging from 8 to 14 knots. These typical Mediterranean conditions allowed the Race Committee to complete the scheduled racing programme that saw some fiercely contested races.
