As it does every year, YCM has joined forces with Sir Ernst. For the third edition of this cruise on the Sir Ernst, organised for the association À Chacun Son Cap, a dozen young people in remission from cancer have embarked on a unique sailing experience between the Var coast and Monaco.
They departed from the port of Saint-Tropez where participants were welcomed by the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez. They were warmly welcomed at a reception before setting sail on the first leg that takes them on a route along the Mediterranean coast, calling into Fréjus, passing by the Iles de Lérins then on to Beaulieu-sur-Mer. They are expected to arrive at Yacht Club de Monaco on Friday 10 April where a welcome worthy of their commitment awaits the boat’s crew and their courageous guest crew members.
This year’s trip, supported by François Miribel from Yacht Club de Monaco, welcomes ten young people from hospitals in Lyon and Nice. All have a history marked by illness and a desire to get out and rediscover all the sensations of movement and freedom at sea. Supervised by the association’s teams and doctors, on boats loaned to them by YCM members, they are discovering the joys of sailing in a secure environment.
The rhythm of their lives are changed by the sea and what it offers. On a sailing boat time seems to pause. And while these young people may open up about their lives and treatments, they also talk about other things. What happens on board goes beyond sailing. It’s a collective experience where everyone progresses at their own pace, supported by the crew. It is an initiative dear to the heart of the YCM which is committed to it alongside Sir Ernst.
For these young people, this voyage is more than a trip out. It is a unique experience, far from their hospital environment. Between manoeuvres, shared moments and the stunning Mediterranean landscape, it is an experience that leaves its mark: that of being together at sea. For the Yacht Club de Monaco, it’s also what sailing is all about. It’s about knowledge sharing but also rebuilding.
