Launched in the mid-19th century, the New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta is the oldest annual sailing competition in North America. Held in Newport since 1988, it combines a race around Conanicut Island with two days of technical races on windward-leeward courses. This year again, nearly 150 boats gathered on the waters off Rhode Island in widely varied conditions.
After all the different races completed over the weekend, Federico Michetti and his crew on My Sharona clinched a well-deserved victory overall in ClubSwan 28. A top-tier performance against a very competitive fleet where several teams shared race-wins.
A few days earlier, in the Around the Island Race round Conanicut Island, which counts towards a separate ranking, Federico Michetti had already demonstrated his competitive attitude by securing 4th place.
Another Yacht Club de Monaco representative competing in this class was William Loomis Heston who came 6th in the Around the Island Race to finish 7th place in the overall ranking on Green Witch.
In a fleet comprising owners and one design specialists these results showcase the very high level of Yacht Club de Monaco members at major international events They also fit an American tradition for YCM as its flag is also flying high on the waters of New York where Viola (1908) and Tuiga (1909) are engaged in their historic tour between New York and Newport
With a victory and several top ten finishes YCM members have left their mark at the New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta. A collective performance that underpins their ability to stand out at major international regattas from Newport to the most prestigious European venues.
