YCM sailors stood out at the ORC World Championship in Naples. Held during the Tre Golfi Sailing Week, the 2026 edition once again attracted an international fleet to Naples and Sorrento. Giovanni Lombardi Stronati and Vincenzo Onorato both secured 4th places in their respective categories at the end of a challenging week of offshore racing and inshore races in the Gulf of Naples.
The ORC World Championship opened with the legendary Regata dei Tre Golfi, a 150 nautical mile offshore race between the islands of Ponza and Li Galli before finishing in Naples. The competition continued in Sorrento with four days of inshore races.
All week, crews had to contend with very variable conditions, starting with light unstable winds at the start of the championship, with stronger thermals some afternoons, and a final day of 15 to 17 knot westerlies gusting up to 25 knots, and a nigh-on two-metre swell.
Competing in two different divisions, Giovanni Lombardi Stronati from YCM confirmed his reputation for consistency throughout the event. Aboard Django WR in ORC 0 against 15 contestants he finished 4th after eight races, two of which he won. It was the same result in ORC A on Django JP in a fleet of 26 boats, where gaps were minimal throughout.
In ORC B, Vincenzo Onorato and his Farr 40 Mascalzone Latino also finished in 4th place out of a fleet of 25 competitors. A regular at major international meetings, the Italian owner who is a Yacht Club de Monaco member was in contention for a podium finish throughout the championship after winning two of the races.
At the opening event of the ORC World Championship, crews lined up on the start of the 71st Regata dei Tre Golfi, a Mediterranean classic offshore race of 150 nautical miles. With 139 boats competing, the 2026 edition again cemented its status as a reference on the European offshore circuit.
In this offshore race between Naples, Ponza and Li Galli, Giovanni Lombardi Stronati clinched a well-deserved 3rd place with Django WR. Django JP came 25th while Vincenzo Onorato and Mascalzone Latino finished 32nd overall.
Between the historic offshore race and ORC World Championship, the Tre Golfi Sailing Week continues to establish itself as one of the major Mediterranean sailing events. For nearly three weeks, Naples and Sorrento hosted some of the best international teams.
In this context, YCM sailors stood out at the ORC Championship with several top finishes and a constant presence in the vanguard against a very high level international fleet.
Outside the ORC World Championship, the Tre Golfi Sailing Week continues to expand its programme with several major events organised until the end of May. After the ORC regattas, the Maxi fleet takes over from 22-28 May for the IMA Maxi European Championship, while the Tre Golfi Multihull Trophy will bring together the big multihulls to Italian waters.
